Some of those things listed are a choice. Live within your means. If you can't afford a pet or insurance for said pet, don't get one. Purchase a used vehicle within your means so you don't have a loan, you can then afford full coverage or liability insurance that reduces cost.

Yes the cost of living is significantly more BUT people can also stand to make better choices financially and live within their means. If you make higher cost choices, then your cost of living will be higher... make better choices.
