@sarahditum It's not so hard to believe. Eddie Izzard was in his late 40s and 50s when he did his marathons, Arday was mid 20s and a PE teacher. Wearable fitness tech didnt really become affordable or widely used til 2012 at the v earliest. Strava was used mainly by cyclists until Covid.

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days!

Wow!

What a thing to claim!

And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it.

Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄

@joerosswilliams @stellaomalley3 I'm disgusted at how GC people I've followed for yrs have commented on this, incapable of questioning a far right narrative. One who's made their name making content about GC issues was at the vigil, sneering at one of the speakers. Why? It's hatefarming for clicks at best.

@bindelj Methven's apology is welcome. I've maintained broad leftist principles for 40yrs, also stuck to personal principles. I'm disgusted with the way many gender critical people I've followed for years have covered the Jason Arday story, and seem incapable of self reflection or empathy

@joeanddan @stellaomalley3 It's widely thought suicide was underreported when it was considered shameful and criminal, for that exact reason: families concealed the cause of death for fear of ostracisation or financial destitution. It's normal for people to gather together to grieve and show solidarity.
