Early Birds of the Desert 🐦

As temperatures rise, Arizona’s desert landscapes come alive with activity in the early morning hours. Spring and summer are some of the best times to spot colorful migratory birds and native species moving through the Sonoran Desert.

Bird walks return to Boyce Thompson Arboretum this June on the first Wednesday of each month, offering a chance to slow down, explore the desert at sunrise, and experience how healthy desert habitats support an incredible diversity of wildlife.

The Lower Salt River is one of Arizona’s most visited desert waterways, where flowing water, cottonwood-lined banks, and recreation come together each season. As more people spend time along the river, keeping it clean becomes an important shared responsibility.

A recent cleanup led by Natural Restorations, in partnership with HAPI and Visit Mesa, brought volunteers together to help remove litter and protect this important stretch of river.
