Daesh’s killing of local militant commander Qari Hamza in the Bara area adjacent to Peshawar has shed new light on the continuing confrontation between Daesh and the Afghan Taliban, and its implications for Pakistan.

According to a Daesh statement following the attack, Qari Hamza was a close associate of Dr. Bashir, a senior Taliban intelligence official, and had worked alongside the Taliban for several years in operations against Daesh. Daesh also threatened to target other individuals in Pakistan who support the Afghan Taliban.

The episode is particularly significant because the Afghan Taliban had, some time ago, claimed to have targeted a Daesh camp in Qari Hamza’s native area of Bara Qambar Khel, claiming that several Daesh members were killed.

The latest killing highlights how the Daesh-Taliban confrontation is increasingly intersecting with Pakistan, with individuals linked to the Afghan Taliban becoming potential targets for Daesh inside the country.

Præcis - historien gentager sig selv konstant. Obama lyttede heller ikke til DIAs advarsler om at ISIL kunne ende med deres drøm om, at få skabt et kalifat, som de også drømte om under Irakkrigen 2. Politikere skal man ikke anse som eksperter, når det handler om krige. Husk det!
