Video shows Palestinian driver plowing into British tourists in Crete

A car driven by a 29-year-old Palestinian man spreads panic on a crowded street in Malia, Crete, as video footage captures the moment it hits tourists.

The video, which became public on Saturday, records the seconds leading up to the hit that took place in Malia in the early hours of 19 July.

Published by Creta Live, it shows the car’s dangerous path through a busy street packed with people at the height of summer, culminating in a collision with tourists.

Crowds were out on the street and in the bars when the vehicle appears amid the throng. The driver — the 29-year-old Palestinian — is seen making dangerous maneuvers.

As he drives along the road, he first swerves sharply to the right. People scramble and run to get out of the way. He then turns left and collides with a British couple who were standing talking, unaware.

The 41-year-old British woman suffered a broken leg. Her partner is more fortunate and sustains less serious injuries.

The vehicle’s wild path angers some people in the crowd. Once they realize what has happened, they react with shouts and gestures of disapproval, and one person kicks the car involved.

After several days of investigation, the authorities identified the owner of the car as a 29-year-old Palestinian resident of Heraklion. He faces a felony criminal charge.

During the preliminary investigation, he had confessed that he was the driver and that he had been under the influence of alcohol. However, when he appeared before the examining magistrate in Heraklion, he claimed he was not the person driving.

He said the vehicle only came into his possession 23 days before his arrest — that is, after the incident. He attributed his earlier confession to a misunderstanding caused by a language barrier.

The 29-year-old was released under restrictive conditions, including the surrender of his driving license and the vehicle’s registration documents.

America at that time was going through infrastructure building.

There was no H1B at the time.
No welfare.

H1B was brought in in 1990 by Congress to let skilled workers into America.

Labor is still allowed into USA through H2B visa.
