Just saw Supergirl and really enjoyed it. It explored the way grief can curdle and break bad, if you aren’t careful. It also comments on worlds where guns have more rights than women. I could see why it offended so many reviewer dude bros here.
out of everything that worked and didn't work in supergirl, i personally think kara is the most(?) authentic movie character in DCU right now and that's maybe because the movie explores enough of her personal life alongside her journey so she never felt like a mascot to me.
Un símbolo de esperanza 🌟

The sad truth is that even in comic book spaces that should be more evolved than other media landscapes, women actors, writers, artists, and directors still have to do three times the work to get a fraction of the credit, and in an exponentially expanding virtual landscape where the lowest common denominator is courted and women are targeted, we’re going to continue to see these stories play out.
Supergirl is a perfect example of how content creators have ruined the experience of anticipating and seeing a comic book movie, spewing out a steady stream of negativity, speculation, rumor-mongering, and doom forecasting.
Combine that with the reality that 90 percent of these creators are dudes or women trying to draw their gaze, and a female-led superhero movie faces impossible scrutiny.
Supergirl didn’t fall, at least not completely.
She simply burned up in the Manosphere.

Supergirl is fun, cool, and refreshingly optimistic. The action works, the humor lands more often than not, and the film embraces the kind of comic-book energy that makes superhero movies enjoyable in the first place.
did not deserve the hate ngl, idk what yall are smoking on rn. this was a good ass movie
it did had some flaws unfortunately but it's still a good movie imo, far from being the worst. also this is only the 2nd dcu film let's not get worried lmao
solid 8/10, will watch it again
Brie Larson was right.
Out of 296 Rotten Tomatoes reviews that I looked at, 211 (71%) are by men and 85 (29%) are by women.
113/211 (53%) of men’s reviews are negative while only 22/85 (25%) of women’s are negative.
There are more negative film reviews of Supergirl by men then there are reviews written by women in total. So it doesn’t matter that women overwhelmingly liked the movie: their opinions are barely registering.
I think there should be some way to weigh film reviews to reflect the target demographics of the intended audience, personally.
But I’ll be writing a piece for @NewSalemNews out hopefully later this week with all of my thoughts.
No estamos llorando, solo se nos ha metido un Krypto en el ojo... 🥹
