The proposed Croatia Ring project near Slunj has cleared another major hurdle after receiving environmental approval.

🏁 The FIA Grade 1 circuit is targeting completion by the end of 2027, with the long-term ambition of bringing Formula 1 to Croatia. The project also includes a wider motorsport and leisure complex, with 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve involved as an advisor.

Since Formula 1 has decided to throw its own history in the bin in its latest TikTok, here are the names of the corners/straights and their origins

Main Straight | Hamilton Straight - Renamed in 2020, honouring their home hero

T1 | Abbey - Named for the remains of a medieval monastery found nearby, Luffield Abbey

T2 | Farm - The original circuit featured a straight that passed by a farm

T3 | Village - Refers to the closest village (Silverstone)

T4 | The Loop - Reflects the shape of the corner

T5 | Aintree - Liverpool’s Aintree Racecourse was home to the British GP on 5 seasons

Wellington Straight - During World War II, the land was home to an RAF base and featured runways for the Vickers Wellington bombers

T6 | Brooklands - Tribute to another former host of the British GP

T7 | Luffield - Reminder of the aforementioned abbey that stood to the north-east of the track

T8 | Woodcote - Woodcote Park is a stately home located on RAC-owned land in Surrey

T9 | Copse - Luscious countryside and pockets of woodland surround Silverstone, with some of the small groups of trees – referred to as copses
