👋 Today is your last chance to visit the online exhibition The @_Second_Guess: Body Anxiety in the Age of AI at HeK Basel.
The 10th anniversary of the influential online exhibition Body Anxiety, curated in 2015 by Leah Schrager and Jennifer Chan, serves as an occasion for Margaret Murphy, Leah Schrager, and myself to explore body anxiety in the age of AI.
In 2025, the exhibition looks back at the history of the relationship between humans and technology, as well as the beginnings of what is known as selfie feminism or networked feminism. It also shows how the fight against censorship on social media has evolved into a fight against deepfakes in the age of AI.
Participating artists: Addie Wagenknecht (@wheresaddie), Ana María Caballero (@CaballeroAnaMa) & @MWiederrecht, Anika Meier, @nnHirsch, Ann Hirsch & Maya Man (@mayaonthenet), Anna Ehrenstein, Arvida Byström, Avery Gia Sophie Schramm, Faith 'Aya' Umoh, Bianca Kennedy, @CarlaGannis, @YesClaudiaHart, @ConnieBakshi, @EmiKusano, @Hi_Flynn (by Malpractice), @GretchenAndrew, Gretta Louw, @KikaNicolela, Kira @Xonorika, @laurenleemack, @LeahSchrager, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Margaret Murphy (@margaretonline), Marisa Olson, @martina_menegon, Maya Man, Mel E. ✨ First and foremost, thank you to the artists and my co-curators! And thank you to everyone who made this exhibition what it is and made it possible: Sabine Himmelsbach and her HeK team, Aleksandra Art (@aljaparis) and her Tezos team, @KikaNicolela and her @objktcom team, Liz Haas (UBERMORGEN) and her team at die Angewandte!
This exhibition was also an experiment. We wanted to see if it was possible to do an online exhibition as a first step, and then add NFTs as a second step. I think it is possible. With the NFT sales, we will fund the production of the book about the exhibition. Thank you to all the collectors for their enthusiasm and support!
“AI has the potential for multidimensional visualization: to build the world we want, we need to be informed by data and understand what infrastructures do not correspond to that.”
– @xonorika
Xonorika is also a writer. Her love of science fiction literature from a young age has had a huge impact on her artist practice and perspective about the potential of technology and AI.
Landscape, 2022
In the @_second_guess Body Anxiety in the Age of AI, curated by myself, Anika Meier, and Leah Schrager, @xonorika’s Melting Pot explores the idea of the feminist nude (Jenny Wu, 2023) in a work that feels self-determined, raw, and uncanny.

Female nudes have been a central motif in the canon of European art, representing beauty, desire, and the power dynamics embedded in the male gaze of painters and sculptors.
