The master of garum production in Pompeii was a man called Umbricius Scaurus and he was all about commercial branding on his products and even to the point of depicting four garum jars with his name on in the mosaic of the atrium of his house.

These are the empty amphora used for transporting the garum but in the front of the shop there are large vessels that still contain the dried remains of garum: a fermented fish sauce used for flavouring in cooking much like soy sauce.

Still nestled in the pumice and found in the back room of a garum shop in #Pompeii, some of these amphorae still have the red painted labels on them called ‘tituli picti’ which usually identify production, contents, or delivery details.
