A bit over a month ago, I created a tool to practice Linux - ShellGym. The tool is good on its own, and you can run it on any Linux machine. But it works best when combined with disposable VMs and spaced repetition.
Today, I'm happy to share the very first Shell Gym on iximiuz Labs:
> Meet the Linux Shell
https://t.co/Ez4RIi3BDE
It's a good match if you're only getting started with the Linux command line. The gym contains over 20 simple exercises, and you can try it right in your browser - via a web terminal connected to a real Ubuntu VM.
And since it's natively integrated with the rest of the platform, an attempted gym becomes part of your Daily Practice, and iximiuz Labs will be happy to remind you to repeat the exercise in 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 days - until the hands-on skills really stick.

SSH Tunnels or How to Become a Connectivity Wizard 🧙♂️
10 hands-on challenges to practice port forwarding with SSH tunnels - starting with simple local/remote port forwarding and all the way down to advanced scenarios with bastions and jump hosts:
- Access an internal debug port through an SSH tunnel https://t.co/jlaEw8y7zy
- Reach a private VPC service through an SSH bastion https://t.co/FCNs9iFojr
- Reach a remote loopback port through an SSH jump host https://t.co/peLYwVG0SJ
- Restrict SSH bastion access by user role https://t.co/74s3isK2pY
- Reach internal servers through a "no shell" SSH bastion https://t.co/3dSvgKPoJJ
- Reach a whole VPC through an SSH SOCKS proxy https://t.co/CVbU9lqQKP
- Expose a local service through an SSH reverse tunnel https://t.co/fgXYIVUWVT
- Expose a home network device through an SSH reverse tunnel https://t.co/TSSLIHIebg

Borg Backup Server is a self-hosted web application for centrally managing BorgBackup across multiple Linux, Mac, and Windows endpoints. It uses a lightweight agent that polls the server over HTTPS, enabling backups from behind firewalls. The tool offers full encryption, real-time progress tracking, file-level restores, and database plugins for MySQL and PostgreSQL.

iximiuz Labs has just gotten the new "learner" dashboard:
- The structure & navigation are hopefully saner now
- Cleared some space for the coming soon Shell Gyms
- Everything should be snappier and less jumpy
Last but not least, learning materials can now be "saved for later" while browsing the catalog(s) and then quickly accessed in the dashboard. A bunch of people have asked about this capability, so I'm super happy I finally shipped it.

CCleaner used to be the default way to keep a Windows machine fast.
Then it got bought, stuffed with ads and bundled crapware, and in 2017 one release was compromised and shipped malware to over 2 million people. Millions still install it every month because nothing else has really replaced it.
So, a team called AdventDev just built a free, open-source replacement.
It's called Kudu. Open the app and you get one dashboard for the whole machine.
> System cleaner for temp files, logs, caches, and crash dumps.
> Browser cleaner across every major browser.
> Gaming cleaner for launcher and shader caches.
> Registry cleaner for broken and orphaned entries.
> Startup manager that shows the actual boot impact of each program.
> Disk analyzer with an interactive treemap, so you can see where 40GB quietly disappeared to.
> Debloater that rips Windows bloatware out.
> Program uninstaller that also removes the leftovers other uninstallers leave behind.
Then it does the parts CCleaner never did.
A malware scanner with signature matching, heuristic analysis, and Windows Defender integration. A privacy shield that lets you flip 30+ Windows privacy settings from one screen: telemetry, ad ID, Cortana, tracking. Secure delete that overwrites files with random data before removing them, so nothing can recover them later.
There's a real-time performance monitor with per-core CPU, memory, disk, network, and S.M.A.R.T. drive health. A one-click restore point before every clean, so you can roll back. Scheduled scans. A CLI mode for people who don't want a GUI. Support for 30 languages.
Native app for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Intel and Apple Silicon builds. No ads, no upsells, no telemetry, no account.
The cleaning rules are plain JSON files, so if your favorite app isn't covered yet, you can add support for it without writing a line of code.

You’ve got a server refusing to start because something’s already sitting on port 8080, and you need to find what’s holding it and kill it without rebooting the whole machine.
