Enchanted by the idea that Cypriots were solely decedents of Ancient Greece, this played out in an architectural gaslighting. Initially via over the top appropriation of Ancient Greek motifs and then a sudden retreat to a reserved, hybridised language when calls for enosis grew

Loads of stories and pieces of familial puzzle coming together reading this, following recommendation by @CypriotIdentity and @Anthony1983. Interesting to read of British colonisers' confusion about who the hybrid Cypriot people really were, 'exotic but could speak Greek'
