@MLSist MLS has a better spaced schedule, facilities, stability, scouting and coaching continuity than its competitors; and all that allows for better tactical ball.
@MLSist I think it takes time to lose the rep that comes along with being a country where soccer isn’t the first sport. You have to watch the trash tactical ball being played in much of the Championship, Eredivisie and other non-top 5 leagues.
Pretty tough luck for Jayden Loving who I think outplayed Gallimore and Lynch, but it seems like a lot to give three d-line rookies a debut in the same game. #Bears
Interested to see what the d-line rotation looks like against the Panthers. My best guess:
RDE: Sweat, Dayo.
RDT: Jarrett; Gallimore.
LDT: Street; Van den Berg.
LDE: Booker; Kromah.
Lynch active backing up both DT and DE. Loving and Hardy inactive. #Bears
@Chicago_NFL Dayo has looked healthy and you only have 3 competent DEs (him, Sweat and Booker), when you really need at least 5. Maybe Kromah surprises this year and you have 4. Regardless DE is an expensive and hard position to staff — if Dayo’s healthy he’ll help next year by default.
@The_Bear_Review All the talk of moving Dayo inside dried up early in camp with the emergence of Loving and JVDB. That could be because of depth or because Dayo has looked quick this preseason. Regardless — Bears need DE depth.
/2 But in a one gap system like Dennis Allen runs, shorter arm length isn't as important. So it seems like they're less versatile but perhaps very good on what they're being asked to do.
/1 Been trying to figure out why Jordan van den Berg and Jayden Loving weren't drafted high but look like they'll contribute. It seems like there's a floor for arm length that good DTs have in a two gap system (34+) and both have gator arms (Loving 30.25, JVDB 32"). #Bearrs
@dan_bernstein@312SportsChi The coaching staff has said the development of van den Berg, Kromah and Loving negated the need to solve D-Line through an expensive acquisition. Is that a reach or should we let them play a few games first? Let it play out.
@clayharbs82 Loving going UDFA confuses me more than JVDB going 6th round. JVDB still has that chaos rawness to his game that might get him overlooked. Loving is a smart, disciplined player and he was in college. Maybe it was his height?
@dan_bernstein@MattAbbatacola Is it time to revisit the "we're going to coach them up better" solve for the D-line? It feels like the find-high-RAS-guys-and-coach-'em-up approach has cleared the first hurdle: JVDB, Loving and Kromah were vicious in preseason. Now the reg season?
@BaldyNFL@ChicagoBears@Titans@JordanvandenB12@StaceyDales JVDB brings the chaos and he should get credit. But I also think you have to admire 91 from the game tape. Jayden Loving, UDFA from WF, has been a meance. 9.93 RAS (as compared to JVDB's 10.0) and fast as hell. They will be the Bears starting DTs before the year is up.
Also more screens where the o line released the rooks. Do you think this was a necessity of the game state, with the rooks being disruptive? Or maybe a request from Bears coaching?
@clayharbs82 The Titans line ran more scripted stuff when facing Van Den Berg/Loving. The drive where they split the rooks, let them pursue, and then ran a QB sneak up the middle followed by a run up the middle; and the play where the guards tried to hip toss the rooks in unison
@clayharbs82 Even taking away the highlights, Loving outplayed Lynch and Gallimore yesterday and was consistently more disruptive. You shouldn’t cut a UDFA if he’s better just because he’s a UDFA. I think the DT rotation will be Jarrett/Street and JVDB/Loving with the 2 groups splitting time.
@CeeVee3YT I went back and watched the Titans game focussing on the DTs. Allen rotated JVDB, Loving, Lynch and Gallimore the entire game, so you can directly compare how the four of them did. JVDB was the most disruptive followed by Loving. Don't see how you cut Loving with his play.
