🚨 DODDAMMA DARA ROAD × CHOODASANDRA LAKE ROAD

URBAN DENSITY TRAPPED IN RURAL GOVERNANCE 🛑

High-rise homes. Higher property values. Thousands of daily trips. A rejuvenated 26-acre lake.

And yet the road beside it still struggles to become a dependable urban corridor.

This isn't just a pothole story. It's a governance story.

📍 1️⃣ THE JURISDICTION TRAP

Choodasandra–Doddamara sits in the Shanthipura Gram Panchayat @ShantipuraP / Anekal Taluk context, while the surrounding development has urbanised at extraordinary speed.

The question residents need answered isn't merely:

“Who owns the road?”

It's:

Who is responsible for delivering infrastructure appropriate to the density and traffic this corridor now carries?

With the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) @GBA_office framework now operating, the jurisdiction, funding and maintenance chain needs to be crystal clear - not left for residents to discover by repeatedly tagging departments.

GBA itself provides the 1533 civic helpline and asks citizens to report civic problems.

🌊 2️⃣ THE LAKE WAS RESTORED. NOW LET THE ROAD CATCH UP.

This is the part that makes the contrast impossible to ignore.

Choodasandra Lake - 26 acres - underwent a major restoration initiative involving Bosch Global Software Technologies @boschindia and @saytrees_ind .

The project addressed encroachments, sewage diversion, desilting, bund strengthening, wetlands, biodiversity and water quality; reported water-retention capacity increased from 84 million litres to 150 million litres, benefiting an estimated 3,000 households.

So we now have a striking juxtaposition:

If CSR + NGO + community coordination could transform a 26-acre waterbody, why can't the same ecosystem of government agencies coordinate the road beside it?

Now the civic question is simple:

Can the roads become the next restoration project?

🚰 3️⃣ THE UTILITY → ROAD RESTORATION LOOP

Bengaluru's growth corridors repeatedly encounter:

DIG → UTILITY → TEMPORARY REPAIR → RAIN → ROAD DEGRADES → DIG AGAIN

The Doddamara road has a documented history of drainage and utility-related problems. Earlier reporting recorded residents saying the stretch had lacked proper tarmac for years, while subsequent #BWSSB @bwssbchairman underground pipeline works further affected the road. A 2023 multi-agency inspection involved PWD, BWSSB, panchayat and police/traffic officials, with restoration and drainage planning discussed.

So residents aren't asking for asphalt to be thrown over unfinished utilities.

They are asking for a LOCKED ENGINEERING SEQUENCE:

Kicked off the Freedom Walk on Balagere Road! 🚨

Welcome to one of the most neglected areas in Bengaluru—Balagere Road, located in one of the highest tax-paying constituencies in the entire country. Yet, instead of basic, motorable infrastructure, residents and commuters are greeted with craters, waterlogging, and daily hazards where two-wheelers nearly get run over by water tankers.

During our walk, locals rightly asked: are they waiting for a fatal accident to happen before they finally lay down tar? With 60 crores sanctioned for Mahadevapura (including Varthur, Gunjur, and Balagere), taxpayers are left asking the ultimate question: Where did that money go?

Every monsoon, these roads flood and vehicle underbodies get battered repeatedly. Is this really what tax-paying citizens deserve? We joined hands with local residents to demand answers, transparency, and immediate accountability from our civic authorities.
