This is based on a comic (I have it but canāt remember the artist name at the moment) but all I remember about was how they just used clip art of Mr. Turner instead of drawing him. One of my favorite things ever.
Jason Schreier says in his latest video that the end of physical video game releases has been in the making since the day GameStop introduced the use game sale market. Third-party were furious about the lack of profits from use sales. That's why Xbox One E3 happened. (1)
Miyamoto on why Nintendo receives global support:
āSo, the reason Nintendo enjoys such strong global support is simply that we donāt start by asking: āWhatās trending right now?ā Instead, we focus on who weāre actually doing this for. Who is it thatās putting up the money? I really dislike terms like ādepreciationā or ārecouping costs.ā The people funding these projects are doing it to make a fortune, so why celebrate things like āwe recouped our investmentā or short-term profits? To me, if youāve burned through the talents of so many people just to achieve that, that feels like a massive failure.
Weāve always focused on creating the best possible product to match the āfun gameplayā we envision. I think thatās the only real difference. I might sound a bit arrogant saying this [laughs], but if you make things while constantly asking āwill this make money right away?ā you canāt create anything truly unique or with broad appeal.
The ideal relationship between us and the company is one where you get comments like āIām so glad I asked you to do this ā it took some time, but we made a huge profit.ā Ultimately, it all comes down to whether we can keep that going.
After all, the most ālocalā things ā like an individualās personal hobbies ā are often the ones that resonate globally. Conversely, if you try to base your work on things that only seem to have broad appeal, you end up with something generic ā something where you canāt tell who actually made itĀ and that kind of thing actually lacks global strength.
Thatās why, when people at the company ask me what to do, the only advice I can offer is: āYou should turn your idea into a product in a way that best showcases the fact that you were the one who created it.ā

just uncritically posting numbers showing physical sales in a bad light. Even 2 seconds of thought would reveal a whole host of reasons why this supposed bombshell data is worthless. The fact that all the big accounts are in lockstep with no introspection screams coordinated.
So on the heels of Sony getting outed for using bots to push their propaganda, there is now appears to be a coordinated campaign by media and industry figures to post deliberately misleading statistics about physical games. All of these big accounts that SHOULD know better are

It looks like Sony doesn't want to go back to producing physical games and they don't even care about gamers backlash at this point.
Alanah Pearce (former Santa Monica Studio writer) commented on the situation "Sony already knew everyone would be pissed off" mindblowing right?
She later added that "People working within PlayStation first-party studios told me Sony had the strictest social media guidelines for this particular thing theyāve ever seen issued.ā
She also mentioned that, from Sony's perspective this is worth it because selling games digitally means they'll earn about 50% more per game sold.
In short, It looks like Sony has probably told its employees not to comment on the situation at all, and they're just going with the silent treatment. Their bet is that gamers will eventually forget about all of this and switch to an all-digital future.
What is your opinion on this?
IS ANYONE SURPRISED?
I want all those who doubt consumers pushing back to pay attention. Whether you feel this ends tomorrow or a few months from now, the pressure is getting to Sony.
I've never seen so many ppl be okay with having less options š¤·āāļø
Alanah Pearce reports that Sony introduced its strictest social media guidelines ever ahead of the controversial PlayStation disc announcement.
Pearce said in a recent video that people working at PlayStation first-party studios told her Sony expected a major backlash before making the announcement.
According to Pearce:
"Sony already knew everyone would be pissed offāthey knew this. People working within PlayStation first-party studios told me Sony had the strictest social media guidelines for this particular thing they've ever seen issued."
She explained that Sony regularly gives employees guidance on what they can and can't say publicly.
Pearce said she received similar instructions while working on God of War, but described these new guidelines as far more restrictive than anything she had previously experienced.
"But in this instance, itās apparently the strictest the employees I spoke to have ever seen regarding public communications. They would only have done this if they knew it was going to be an enormous PR issue. This is no surprise to them.ā"
