Research can be beautiful!
While examining the glue joints in plywood, students at the CICS @th_koeln applied dye to make individual materials more visually distinct. Sometimes, this can lead to fascinating and frankly #beautiful images, when viewed through a #microscope.
Do you also sometimes feel watched when working...?
As a conservator you get close to objects and discover beautiful details while examining and working on them, like this beautiful eye!

Before & after: delicate carved details of an object which has been damaged and severely soiled during the flooding of the #Ahr valley in Germany in 2021. It belongs to a series of #art and #cultural objects that are still undergoing #conservation treatments.

Sometimes you find treasures in trash!
This swing chair was supposed to be discarded because of the broken seat. Instead, it ended up with a conservator who is happy to take care of it.

Menthol on #paper - time lapse of the sublimation process. Students at @th_koeln tested different materials that sublimate. They pass directly from the solid to the gaseous aggregate state. That is used in #conservation for various temporary treatments.

A few weeks ago, we gave an insight into the #YoungConservators social media workshop. This has resulted in some great posts that we would like to share with you. In the coming weeks, students from the @th_koeln will share insight into their diverse work. Stay tuned!
This weekend "Restauratoren in Ausbildung“ #conservatorsInTraining from @VDR_Bonn are hosting the annual information event on #conservation study programs.Prospective students can get further information on conservation programs at German universities and the application process
The devil is in the detail!
At first sight the punched background of the “Annunciation” seems made of simple dots. Under the microscope however, the punch turns out to have been split in two halves.
Have seen punch marks like these before?
