🇨🇳🇮🇷 China and Iran Signal Deepening Alignment as FM Wang Yi Hosts FM Araghchi in Beijing

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Chinese FM Wang Yi in Beijing on Wednesday, with both sides issuing statements signaling increased strategic alignment and shared pressure on Washington to negotiate.

Araghchi said the meeting was “constructive,” reaffirming that “a political crisis cannot be solved through military means.” He said Iran appreciates China’s four-point proposal for regional peace and “trusts China” to play an active role in ending the conflict and building a post-war regional framework.

Wang Yi said the region is at “a critical stage of whether the conflict could end,” warning that restarting the war “would be even more ill-advised.” China “supports Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security” and is ready to “play a greater role in restoring peace and tranquility in the Middle East.”

On the nuclear file, Wang Yi said China recognizes Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear energy while appreciating its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons.

On the Hormuz standoff, Wang Yi said “the international community has a common concern” about restoring safe passage and urged parties to respond to that call quickly.

The meeting comes one week before Trump’s scheduled summit with Xi in Beijing.

🇮🇷 Iran today launched the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA). It represents a new government body and mechanism designed to formalize and regulate Iranian control over maritime traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

🚨New Testimonies Reveal Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya Stripped, Beaten, and Set Upon by Dogs in Israeli Detention

Three recently released Palestinian prisoners have provided harrowing testimony about the condition of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, who has been held in Israeli detention since his arrest on December 27, 2024.

Released prisoner Ahmad Qaddas said he initially did not recognize Abu Safiya due to his physical deterioration. He described the doctor spending most of his time “sitting in a daze,” barely able to speak, while fellow prisoners could hear him screaming during beatings but were powerless to intervene — with those who tried to help facing tear gas raids.

A second witness, Hamza Abu Omeira, said Abu Safiya suffered constant vomiting, could not keep food down, and was denied medical care. He described seven consecutive days during which prisoners were shackled by both hands and feet. He said Abu Safiya was also reportedly forced to repeat degrading phrases about himself under torture.

A third released prisoner said he witnessed Abu Safiya being stripped, beaten after interrogation, and attacked by police dogs that “scratched him and knocked him to the ground.”

All three witnesses warned he faces imminent death if not released immediately. Abu Safiya is one of 737 medical workers arrested by Israel since the start of the war, according to Al Jazeera.

🇵🇸 Dozens of wounded Palestinians and their families staged a sit-in Tuesday at Palestine Square in eastern Gaza City demanding permission to travel abroad for medical care amid Israeli-imposed crossing closures and delays in evacuating medical cases, according to the Palestinian Information Center.

As of May 2026, more than 20,000 patients are currently awaiting life-saving medical evacuation. While there is a standing commitment from Israel to allow 50 patients to leave daily, the actual rate has often dropped as low as 12 patients per day.

Approximately 10 people on the evacuation list die every day while waiting for permission to cross. Since 2024, at least 1,268 patients have died while waiting for exit permits. At current evacuation speeds, it is estimated to take between 4.5 and 10 years to clear the existing list of critically ill patients.

The backlog includes roughly 4,000 cancer patients and thousands more with heart and kidney failure who cannot receive specialized care within Gaza. Over 4,500 children are also currently registered for urgent medical care abroad.

Participants carried banners declaring that medical treatment is “a right, not a favor” and displayed personal photos showing their conditions before and after their injuries to illustrate how treatment delays are preventing their recovery.
