@MrDanielBuck Could you indicate please if you were in an air conditioned school, or were you, like me, in a classroom that potentially went up to 40 degrees celsius in sept/April/may/June?
@MrDanielBuck I always wear slacks and a blouse. But my footwear might be deemed "unprofessional" as I have limitations due to medical conditions.
In the warmer months (sept, Apr, may, June) I am VERY sweaty due to hot classrooms no a/c. Is it considered unprofessional to be sweaty?
@MrZachG It can be stressful and off-putting, as sometimes the colleagues will interject and criticize during the lesson, in front of the students, rather than wait to see how your plan plays out and ask their questions later.
Once bitten, twice shy.
@NightShiftMD I have heard that wastewater data is no longer available in Ontario. How is anyone supposed to track the Covid spread anymore?
Also, are free tests still available in Ontario?
@bledwine@oldandrewuk Not sure your point. One pen, one time, not a biggie.
One pen each day, for multiple students over multiple different classes, which get broken or stolen, supplied and paid for by the teacher, is not a small thing, but is often the expectation.
@ImMatty_Ice @JayWamsted Unfortunately, reminding students to put away their phones is not the answer either. They continue to sneak them out (or blatantly use them) for the entire period, even with multiple reminders.
@MarcusLuther6 Another scenario: several students, when asked to turn in phones, turn in an old one that they no longer use. They then sneak out their real phone all period and play games, text, and watch videos when the teacher isn't looking.
@oldandrewuk 1) the decade long push of learning styles
2) destreaming with no extra classroom supports
3) increasing student engagement by having everyone shout "BAM" when students were losing focus.
@OliverRMills Currently working in a school, but think about leaving ask the time. Reason... gov't and board initiatives that increase the workload for teachers.
Every year, we are told that the way we teach is all wrong, so we are asked to completely change our practice far too often.
@monjill@JayWamsted The only issue I have with this is keeping track of who has or has not received a warning.
I would prefer to make it a class policy and just remind the entire class once per day as the only "warning".
@douglasgorden @jennyleeshee Teachers are just directed to take students to a cooler part of the school. In high school, this means that all the teachers are scrambling to book their classes into the library - limited cool spaces to book.
@CP24 The numbers in the article report the average.
It would be better to report the median.
The average can misrepresent what is happening as it is pulled upwards by teachers on short term leave due to things like surgery or a broken leg, as opposed to occasional illnesses.
@Vickithinksalot @FixingEducation Ah, I long for those days. Teaching was MUCH easier back then. It was actually possible to keep up with planning and grading.
With each passing year, the job has become filled with increasing expectations on teachers, and decreasing expectations on students.
@ElisaW5@FixingEducation Does it, though??
We are expected to provide package of work when requested by students/parents who are going on vacation.
In my experience, the students never do the packages.
Yet, we are always told we have to provide them.
It takes extra work to put them together.
