Paul Finlayson, a well-liked, non-Jewish professor at a small Canadian university, was suspended, silenced, and ultimately lost his career after expressing support for Israel in a online exchange with a Pakistani fan of Hamas soon after October 7.
He writes that the university removed him without clear charges, barred him from communicating with students or colleagues, and allowed false rumors to spread that he had committed violent acts and was arrested —all entirely fabricated.
Another faculty member who had publicly expressed support for Hamas seems to have been instrumental in this nightmare.
The university and union all turned against him without giving him even the chance to defend himself.
The result was not just discipline, but reputational destruction. A longtime lecturer was isolated, silenced, defamed, and slandered.
Finlayson may not be Jewish but this is a horrific story of extreme antisemitism where even expressing a pro-Israel opinion can be career-ending.

@yoav_nahmias@havivrettiggur I disagree. Mossad is under PM office - everything we see them do now is a result of at least couple of decades of hard, expensive and politically backed work. The couple of decades that they are under Bibi basically.
If there was no Oct 7 there would be another reason.
@EinatWilf I would add to that that the Lebanese state should stop recognition of UNRWA definition of ‘refugees’ and all ‘Palestinians refugees’ in Lebanon are re evaluated under UNRGC rules.
@SanJosePD@SanJosePD - so you have all the tools and usually it would take minutes to an hour but you can’t lock this scum for over 24 hours now?
The next investigation should be into your handling of this incident and your chief should be accountable.
@BriannaWu At what point will that stop being your party? In two party system you will never has one that represents you completely. Independent is an option.
This is pure incompetence. There are multiple videos, those criminals should have been arrested within hours.
This attack was at broad day light, no masks, YESTERDAY. Next investigation should be into @SanJosePD
Statement Regarding Assault at Santana Row:
We are working closely with District Attorney Rosen’s Office to ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable for their actions. We appreciate the community’s concern regarding this serious incident.
Violent crimes, including those alleged to be motivated by hate, will not be tolerated and will receive our full investigative attention. These cases are often complex and require a careful, methodical review to ensure they are handled properly so they can be successfully prosecuted.
We are confident that we will be able to provide the results of this investigation soon.
@DKThomp If a US company can dictate the govt what they can or can’t use the technology they bought for, and reserve the capability to disable that technology, there is no such thing as elected govt.
Why is this surprising? You restrict food intake (let’s say the same effect) and one person is overweight and has functional insulin feedback system while the other does not. I would expect the first one to achieve the same level of benefit faster.
The surprising result for a GLP-1 pill (orforglipron) is the magnitude of weight loss in a Phase 3 trial of participants with Type 2 diabetes. For still unexplained reasons, people with diabetes lose much less weight on GLP-1 drugs than those with obesity, w/o diabetes.

@BriannaWu This is too oversimplified. Hamas is bankrolled by multiple actors (Quatar). Their alliance with Iran is recent, they are deeply aligned with Muslim Brotherhood. Unlike what West likes to pretend, there are no non-Hamas Palestinians in Gaza. So destroying Hamas is what exactly?
