@sakinesakineyea@loloclove@T_Nahhh@PopBase Maybe rare in west. Not rare in East. The band is from 70s but the shirt ain't old.
It was and still a swastika/manji symbol before Nazi misappropriated it to suit their crimes.
Come to India and you'll see the symbol on most doors.
@loloclove@T_Nahhh@PopBase +in all honesty, i didn't know about hakenkreuz until a long time after I completed my studies. Yes, WW2 was in our syllabus but teachers don't teach symbols in class as it's not in syllabus. It's the pop culture that updated me on that.
Sometimes people are ignorant.
@loloclove@T_Nahhh@PopBase What i can say is if i find the graphic on the tshirt to my taste, I would buy it without going back to the history. I assume she did the same, but in no way I'm condoning the pic, as she is a public figure. Just filling in the blanks of what could've happened. +
We have a HUGE swastika hanging in front of our door. I was so confused the first time I saw it in a ww2 game thinking why are they using a Hindu symbol lol.
We had 1 chapter about ww2 in our 9th grade, in a book with 57 chapters💀
Nine or None. That's what we have been saying every time a member is missing or having issues. The fact that she and the company quickly responded to the issue was appreciated but nevertheless damage has been done. All we can do now is hope that she'll be now more knowledgeable +
@tozakivy @cheaterrhannie_ Everyone is taught about world war,but not symbols.Teachers don't say this is offensive, this is bad. They teach it from syllabus perspective.
The symbol is hakenkreuz not swastika. Swastika is a religious symbol is india and girls are also named Swastika as it means good fortune.
@mguriness@KISSKIYAH@PopBase I don't know who sid vicious is. If you want us to know about him, you too should learn the names of all the eastern countries singers/bands/clout-chasers.
@hanneeneeni @heylysten@PopBase And non-tilted was used since millennials in eastern religion. Nazis misappropriated our symbol.and now you are doing just the same. The lease you could do is not call it swastika.
@loloclove@T_Nahhh@PopBase Western world. Please don't include everyone there. Not everyone knows all symbols of this world even if we do know the history. Just Swastika is a religious symbol, so a tilted one might look edgy to people from eastern culture.
It's hakenkreuz that's problematic.
@ruistaytiny@shashapottah@folkloreparties@twice_seung Then why did you buy it? If you knew it would be offensive somewhere in the world, don't buy it. Why would you buy it and potentially support a "WW2 country"?
Things can be interpreted both ways. We need to introspect nd realise not everyone is a saint nor a sinner. Just human
@MuniCikMoon@shashapottah@HoodieTW It's not swastika. Swastika's still religious symbol. The tilted one is Hakenkreuz.
The so-called intellectuals on twitter who are rallying against chae doesn't even know that basic difference.
Asian here, knew about the symbol not from books but from pop culture (later in life)
a thread of why it's possible Chaeyoung didn't fully understand the effects and meanings of her situation
(bc i just wanted to create a full on explanation)
‼️‼️ALSO THIS IS JUST ME SPEAKING, i don't mean to be offensive in anyway, nor am i trying to defend her)
