Yesterday, CSO representatives, legal practitioners, government regulators, media professionals, and investigative journalists joined @Spaces4Change in Abuja for the local launch of its pacesetting report - "Victims Speak: Techniques, Patterns, and Impacts of Targeted Surveillance in Nigeria", focused on targeted surveillance, digital repression, cyber harassment, and the shrinking civic space in Nigeria. The report documents the lived experiences of civic actors targeted by unlawful surveillance in Nigeria.
The conversation at the Launch explored patterns of abuse, the impact on victims, accountability gaps, and the urgent need for stronger safeguards for digital rights and civic freedoms. Participants expressed concern over the scale and sophistication of surveillance techniques documented in the report, as well as the limited avenues for victims to seek redress or accountability. Many were alarmed by how victims often face intimidation, psychological distress, reputational harm, and financial consequences without adequate institutional support or remedies, reflecting how these experiences affect victims beyond the digital space.

INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION
PRESS STATEMENT
RESUMPTION OF NATIONWIDE CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR) FOR FINAL PHASE
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that the current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume for its third and final phase on Monday, 11th May 2026.
It may be recalled that the second phase of the exercise was suspended on 17th April 2026 to allow the Commission clean up the register after its publication for claims and objections by registrants.
The third phase of the CVR, which begins on Monday, 11th May 2026, will end on Friday, 10th July 2026. During this period, eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases, should seize this opportunity to do so.
Similarly, registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct their biodata, are advised to access the Commission’s dedicated online portal at https://t.co/TXA4XP2fCk or visit INEC State and Local Government Area offices nationwide.
In continuation of the process, the Commission will display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from Thursday, 23rd July to Wednesday, 29th July 2026. This statutory exercise provides an important opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and assist the Commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness and credibility.
The Commission reassures Nigerians that all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise. We once again appeal to all eligible citizens to present themselves for registration and to play their part in strengthening the foundation of our electoral process.

Earlier today, YES Africa paid a courtesy visit to Kimpact Development Initiative @Kimpact_Global in Abuja.
Our delegation was led by our Executive Director, and we were warmly received by the top management team at KDI.
Discussions centered on the forthcoming 2027 general elections and strategic pathways for collaboration. We explored how KDI can support and partner with YES Africa on key initiatives to drive civic engagement, voter education, and youth participation for maximum impact across Nigeria.
We’re excited about the possibilities this partnership holds for deepening democracy and amplifying youth voices ahead of 2027.

Jabi lake park Abuja was designed and constructed by the Obasanjo administration over 2 decades ago.The picturesque space is a hub for picnic, camping and recreational activities for Abuja residents. Its sad to see the land being caved out and sold.I don’t even know what they are constructing there. Those who bought the land in violation of the master plan should know that the approval of today will not stand the scrutiny of the future.
In 2016, when myself and other young civic actors launched the campaign for the #NotTooYoungToRun bill, which was eventually signed in 2018, the goal was simple: get more young people running for public office.
Eight years later, the reality hasn’t changed much. The high cost of candidacy now stands in the way of women and young people running for office.
While there have been concessions in the right direction, so much more needs to be done.
As we approach the next election cycle, my call to all political parties and indeed the electoral umpire @inecnigeria is simple: Keep the rates affordable so that the best minds, not just the deepest pockets, can lead Nigeria into the future!✊
I urge citizens to join the call, amplify the demand for #AffordableNominations!
