founder: we need an AI strategy
company:
leads sitting untouched since Tuesday
sales rep manually researching every call
onboarding checklist lives in someone’s Notes app
support answering the same 11 questions all week
CRM looks like an archaeological site
weekly report takes 4 hours
maybe we don’t need AGI yet
here’s an extremely sophisticated framework for finding things to automate:
walk around the company and look for copy + paste
seriously
email → CRM
meeting → task manager
spreadsheet → weekly report
form → proposal
invoice → accounting
customer message → internal Slack
there are people with $100k salaries spending chunks of their day behaving like middleware
that should bother you
one distinction that matters a lot:
automation:
“when this happens, do that”
agentic work:
“here’s what happened, here’s what we know about the customer, here are the rules of the business… figure out what should happen next”
the first one moves data
the second one starts touching judgment
that’s why i think people comparing the current agent wave to Zapier are missing the size of the shift
the interesting part isn’t more triggers
it’s software becoming capable of sitting in the messy middle between information and action
we spent the last 15 years buying software that gave us more places to click
CRM
helpdesk
analytics
project management
forms
email
calendar
dashboards for the dashboards
now we’re slowly building AI that can sit across all of them and just do the annoying thing you opened the software to do in the first place
kind of hilarious when you think about it
the endgame of SaaS might be using less SaaS
AI is an incredible multiplier which is unfortunately bad news if what you’re multiplying sucks
bad offer × more outreach = more people ignoring you
weak product × more ads = faster creative fatigue
confused positioning × 100 AI written landing pages = industrial scale confusion
i would fix the machine before attaching a jet engine to it
there’s a funny point where a business becomes successful enough that its own success starts creating problems
more leads means somebody has to qualify them
more clients means more onboarding, reporting, support, invoices, follow ups
more employees means more people asking each other where things are
eventually you realize half the company is spending its day coordinating the other half of the company
this is probably where AI gets interesting commercially
not replacing the business
removing all the weird administrative scar tissue growth created
