Dear Families,
Just a reminder to check out our Google Classroom going forward for pictures, resources, etc. I will no longer be posting on Twitter; I will be using our Google Classroom exclusively.
Thank you for your support in your child’s learning!
Mrs Klintsaris 🥰
Our class has been discussing a different respect scenario almost every morning. Here are the first 4 in case our families wish to continue these conversations at home 😊
We worked collaboratively to sort pictures that show respectful behaviours vs those that do not. Mutual respect will be an ongoing topic all year long 🥰
@MsMirf@FranklinStPS I agree 💯! Differentiation is key! For that reason “body is still” for one of my students means he can sit on a chair while using his feet to play with the chair band. All areas of the anchor chart can look very different from one student to another 👍🏼
Setting a goal for ourselves 😊 Today, we sat in a community circle and chose one area from our “whole-body listening” chart that we would focus on.
A: I will keep my eyes on the speaker.
J: I will keep my body still.
W: I will think about what the speaker is saying.
@SarahDoingStuff@FranklinStPS Yes! Our programming must always be differentiated based on the needs of our students! One of my students actually looks at the sand falling through an hourglass when listening - that’s his version of “eyes on the speaker”.
Part 2/2 - As a class, we agreed that making mistakes would fit under both categories! It’s ok to make mistakes - we just need to learn from them. It’s not ok to make mistakes on purpose when we have other, kinder ways to problem solve. Such an incredible teachable moment!! 🙌🏼
Part 1/2 - Something super just happened!! We read “No, David!” & created a t-chart to sort appropriate vs inappropriate behaviours. A student suggested that “making mistakes” would go under the “No, David” column. That’s when our t-chart turned into a Venn diagram! (continued…)
What is mutual respect? We have been discussing the importance of mutual respect since our first day together. Please ask your kiddo to explain the ways in which we can…
1. Respect ourselves
2. Respect others
3. Respect things
We discussed the importance of having a growth mind set today, a theme that will woven into our days naturally and intentionally throughout our year together. Please ask your kiddo about the power of the word “yet” and what having a growth mindset means.
Dot Day / week has been a blast! Here are a few dot activities the students completed throughout the week:
1. Collaborative dot
2. Individual plate dot
3. Creative dot circles
4. Wearing dot clothing
Tomorrow our class will be celebrating Dot Day. We have already read and discussed the book, "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds, and have made some dot art. We will work on a collaborative art piece tomorrow. I can’t wait! Students can wear clothing with dots or clothing they love.
In honour of International Women’s Day, we read, “Mae Among the Stars”.
“If you can dream it, if you can believe in it, if you work hard for it, anything is possible.” 👏🏿 🙌🏼 🤝👍🏾 @FranklinStPS
Mindfulness Mondays 😊
B: I feel tired. I know bc I don’t feel like I have any energy.
L: I feel happy. I know bc I like being at school.
A: I feel happy. I know bc I am smiling.
T: I feel bored. I know bc…I’m bored. (Thanks, T! Much appreciated 😝)
@FranklinStPS
Experiment Time!☀️
What will happen to our pictures after they have been exposed to the sun for a week?
B: The sun will shine on the paper and make it brighter.
J: I think when you peel off the tape, you will still see that part.
T: It’s like getting a sunburn.
