I love football. I love late drama. I love comebacks. I love knowing that anything is possible and feeling like we’re watching a steady stream of some of the greatest games ever. I do not love how we are expected to ignore the inconsistencies in officiating and the interventions from VAR, which have largely been heavily weighted towards certain teams and its players. If you’ve watched and followed everything in this World Cup and are still subscribed the idea that it’s all fair, delusionville must be a lovely place to reside.
Madame Celeste Amarilla,
For those criticizing Canada's head coach Jesse Marsch on account that he's "performative". Canada is building and framing it's soccer identity. That includes passionate and deeply caring coaches. He gets to be whomever he wants.
This isn't England in the 1950s.
Sorry.
Seen a fair bit of doom-mongering about the potential departure of senior players this summer. Of course, losing multiple leaders in one go is a concern - and sad, considering what they’ve achieved at Liverpool - but equally it shouldn’t be treated as some big conspiracy.
You may have heard about our “Jersey Swap” in Little Italy yesterday. Here’s what mattered: we didn’t ask people to choose — we were never going to. This was always about starting a conversation. Soccer in this country exists because of passionate communities like our Italian-Canadians.
We live in a country where you can have multiple homes in your heart and we should be proud of that. This summer will be special. 👊🏼
