We have a heartbreaking update on the child dog meat dealer. As many of you know, Summer has been working alongside the Harbin government to shut him down. Yesterday, we received what felt like a punch in the gut. Around three hours from Harbin, near Jilin, is one of the largest dog slaughterhouses in China. This place is actually one of the reasons Harbin SHS Animal Rescue exists. For years, we have rescued dogs from there. They slaughter an estimated 2,000 dogs every week. In 2020, dogs were removed from China’s official agricultural livestock list. This slaughterhouse, however, continued operating after registering under a Korean ethnic minority business classification. Dog meat is NOT Chinese culture. That’s why they registered under Korean ethnic and not Chinese. Yesterday, the government told Summer that the child dog meat dealer had produced paperwork showing the dogs he slaughtered came from this registered slaughterhouse. Absolutely fake paperwork . I can bet my life on it he called in a favor from the slaughterhouse (I ASSUME) They also told her that several restaurants they have been investigating are now legally sourcing dog meat from this same place. I honestly don’t know what our next step is. What I do know is that we have rescued dogs from this slaughterhouse carrying diseases far beyond the common viruses we normally see. Some were so concerning we were afraid to speak publicly about them because we feared we would face the consequences simply for rescuing them. I know what I want to do next… but asking someone to go inside that slaughterhouse and witness what happens there is a level of mental trauma I’m not willing to put anyone through. But we need proof that these dogs are not going through proper quarantine or agricultural health screening. And no. They ain’t going to let a foreigner in either. Just deflated guys. This picture was taken outside the slaughterhouse in 2016. These dogs were not rescued. They were already bought by other slaughterhouses 💔
