My mind keeps coming back to this post of mine from when this whole thing kicked off a couple of days ago…

Because along the way, people seem to keep forgetting what the Grammys actually are.

They're not a mathematical formula.
They're not a measurable metric of artistic greatness.
They don't award whoever sold the most albums, sold out the most stadiums, or changed the industry the most.

They're a vote.

A subjective opinion held by a group of people.

That's it.

An opinion with a trophy attached to it.

If those opinions matter to you, that's your choice. Have at it. Good luck. 👍🏻

But don't confuse SUBJECTIVE recognition with OBJECTIVE greatness.

BTS didn't become great because the Grammys said so.
They won't become less great because the Grammys don't.

Stadiums don't suddenly become empty.
Albums don't suddenly unsell themselves.
Records don't suddenly unbreak.
Global cultural impact doesn't suddenly disappear.

The only thing that changes is whether a particular voting body chooses to recognise it.

That's their right.

Just as it's BTS's right to say, "No thanks. We don't need your opinion this time."

Again, the only power gatekeepers ever have is the power we choose to give them.

The moment you stop treating their opinion as the measure of worth........

...it's just another opinion. 💁🏻‍♀️
