The National Education Policy (NEP)2020 recognizes Indian Sign Language (ISL) as a language and recommends preparation of curricular material in ISL.

In alignment with this vision and the commitment of the Department of School Education & Literacy to promote an inclusive learning environment, @ncert is airing a 5-day free Basic Indian Sign Language (ISL) Course on PM e-Vidya DTH Channel No. 31 from 17-21 February, 2025, with 21,648 registrations so far. This initiative aims to promote awareness of Deaf culture, the significance of ISL and fundamental communication skills, thereby ensuring equitable access to education for learners with hearing impairments and Nonverbal Learning Disability (NVLD). The initiative seeks to build foundational communication competencies in ISL, thereby fostering inclusion of Children with Special Needs (CwSN) in mainstream education.
