When people
- Live differently than you
- Have different tastes
- Enjoy different things
- Spend their time in different ways
- Care about different things
They're not *WRONG*.
They're just different from you.
The world would be boring if everyone were exactly the same.
@Ki_fun_thoughts@FinPhilosopher Bubbles eventually pop.
How much are NFTs worth these days?
The people who were irrationally propping up Bitcoin have moved on to some new insanity, like JarJarBinksCoin or whatever the crypto bros are pumping these days.
@Peter_Nimitz I'd suggest turnout is so low because the options are so terrible.
Do you want the massively corrupt oligarch who went off to collect bribes on another continent while the city burned down?
Or the reality star who is literally famous for being a complete a-hole?
But also because it was the 90s, tickets to a famous band's farewell concert were affordable for a lower-middle-class teenager.
I think they were like $25, which is $54 in today's money.
The next year I went to Oingo Boingo's Farewell concert.
I bought tickets in the usual way: Waiting in line for six hours for the Ticketmaster desk in a Tower Records.
Because it was the 90s.
@FinPhilosopher In 2016, when my neighbor told me about his refinance rates, I assumed it must be some sort of scam.
It wasn't, and I took advantage of it.
And that's why my mortgage on a 3-story townhouse costs less than renting a one-bedroom apartment.
I hold the (bizarrely rare) views that:
1. Kids today have it much better than past generations.
2. People of all ages have it much better than previous generations.
3. This is a good thing that should be celebrated, not weaponized for an intergenerational pissing match.
@joelgrus@farazamiruddin I'd much rather go to the grocery store twice a month than four times a week.
Or even better, order my groceries online and have them delivered.
Anti-car advocates must always run out of toilet paper since they can only buy one or two rolls at a time.
@Ki_fun_thoughts@FinPhilosopher To clarify, I'm not socially awkward around highly intelligent/nerdy people, because I always have something interesting to talk about. Or more often, to listen to.
But I get a lot more socially awkward around normies.
@olgakhazan A few years ago I met up with a friend who had come to LA to take his kids to Disneyland.
When he asked his 5-year-old what his favorite part was, he said it was watching the Emoji Movie on the plane.
@FinPhilosopher It's nice *now*. But it will kill any innovation in cable design, and make our future lives worse.
If this had been passed a couple decades ago, all our device cables would look like this:
@TrevMcKendrick People remember the times they missed out on stupid risks that would have paid off.
"I should have put all my money in Bitcoin 15 years ago!"
They forget all the stupid risks in scams and bad ideas they didn't take that would have lost them all their money.

@thewealthster@ListerLawrence So you're willing to pay more in taxes to support politically connected megacorporations?
The police should be choosing their equipment based on price and quality.
It's weird that you want them to pay more money for worse equipment.
@DStrachman Bad: Spammers using AI-generated form letters to waste countless useful people's time.
Sad: Someone working very hard to build their business, and ending up indistinguishable from AI-generated spam.
