Great to have Luca, Robert and Maria-Grazia from @SKAO in the @CSIRO LOW PSI discussing the upcoming Factory Acceptance Testing of the AA0.5 Correlator. We showed them a 6 substation visibility matrix resulting from 2 independent RF noise sources (1,2,5 & 3,4,6) input into a TPM!
It’s a “super” exciting day worthy of cake - the @SKAO Low Correlator is producing its first AA0.5 visibilities! The Perentie model produces 6-stations of test data and is processed in a @XilinxInc Alveo. Looking forward to enabling Tango and integration into the signal chain.
Wow its been 3.25 years since my last PI meeting in Manchester. The weather inspired us with sunshine and snow, so great to be back in the team of teams. We had 12 SAFe meetings & 18 team meetings. A big thank you to @SKA_DG for sharing your office and trusting team Perentie!
Over the past month the @CSIRO/@SKAO Low Prototype System Integration facility has doubled its liquid chiller capacity. Project sizes are growing as well as the number of projects. Here Daniel van der Schuur, @Yuqing__Chen, @KoosKegel and Duncan Stanton inspect the installation.
Last week Bassem Alachkar and Mark Waterson from @SKAO witnessed the first successful local demonstration of a Jupyter-Tango controlled data transfer between two @XilinxInc Alveo cards running the @CSIRO Customisable-NIC personality. Thank you for all the questions and advice!
4 minutes before Joe McMullin and @andrevanes from @SKAO visit the Low Prototype System Integration facility at @CSIRO Marsfield, the wind blows, lights flicker, out goes the power! Ahh, the demonstration effect. Great to have you here helping with some "on the fly" debugging!
Team Perentie's @SKA_telescope planning mindmap has turned green (=done). For the first time in 7 SAFe Program Increments we have achieved 100% completion of all stories, features and objectives. Awesome effort @CSIRO_ATNF, thanks everyone for delivering what we said we would do!
Keith Bengston (@CSIRO) and @anjameson (@Swinburne) demo’d a multi-SAFe-team effort to integrate the new @IRA_INAF TPM1.6 into the @SKA_telescope. The signal chain is now TPM to Low.CBF to Pulsar Timing. Thanks everyone (except Murphy) for the bug fixes to demo a working system!
The @CSIRO_ATNF & @Swinburne teams processed a simulated Pulsar using the @XilinxInc Alveo and P4 switch. Naturally, bugs are a part of development and techniques to flush them out are critical to the integration of the @SKA_telescope. Many thanks to David Humphrey and @anjameson
The @CSIRO_ATNF Perentie team demonstrated how PTP precision timing in the @SKA_telescope can be distributed to 100s of @XilinxInc Alveo using the Stordis P4 switch. It enables synchronisation of the processing and communications. Many thanks to Guillaume Jourjon and Giles Babich
The Perentie/PST team is feeling happy: @SKA_telescope Deputy DG: “outstanding demo, I continue to be impressed with the pace of development to explore risks, I share my enthusiasm, as well as seeing the bugs now, it really needs to be celebrated and the commitment everyone has"
Establishing the SKA Observatory as an IGO brings radio astronomy into a new era of global co-operation. Congrats to the #SKAO community for bringing the @SKA_telescope to this point. @CSIRO looks forward to continuing to work with all members to realise SKAO's ambitious goals 🎉
@CSIRO_ATNF has just installed 20 @XilinxInc Alveo-U50LV cards in a Comtel server. A great example of 2Tbps massive in-network FPGA signal processing - antenna data comes in and beamformed data goes out. The server is only there to control the processing. Exciting times ahead!
The Perentie team has lots to be proud of for the 8th SAFe program increment. We participated in all system demos and delivered 11 presentations covering the development of FPGA firmware, software, hardware and ECP documentation. Delivering continuous value to the @SKA_telescope
The @CSIRO_ATNF signal processing group successfully implemented our first pulsar filterbank on a @XilinxInc Alveo U50. The COTS FPGA card gave us rapid VHDL development and debugging through HBM memory interfaces using OpenCL software. We had a lot fun developing the test system
@SKA_telescope Low PSI welcomes another new resident - the first SKA Low TPM (station digitiser) is now colocated with the Perentie (correlator/beamformer). The TPM was installed, configured and successfully tested with @IRA_INAF remote tech support! SAFe demo coming next week...
This week the Bluering system came one step closer to completion - Razorback board assembly completed, power turned on (and that magical smoke hasn't come out) and the @XilinxInc RFSOC FPGA is responding to JTAG! The team is getting very excited! Awesome work everyone!
This evening Keith Bengston of @CSIRO_ATNF provided a @SKA_telescope SAFe system demo showing the Very Fine Channeliser (VFC) firmware executing on the @ASTRON_NL Gemini FPGA being controlled by Tango through a number of software layers. Great work Keith and team Perentie!
