@uytaelee My kids school allocates staff to concierge the pick up and drop off. If one measured the cost of that, it would be a silly misuse of limited education dollars all because as soon as the staff aren't there...chaos.
@canadia_mist@brendan_gurrie@TheStanchion @mcveggieman Very valid point from a purely hockey perspective.
But cap implications of acquiring Hronek are big after 1 season, big downside risk of signing a contract that sucks in the back half like OEL's.
Trading the NYI 1st, we have less chance to get a good cost-controlled player.
@pete_gas@brian__sharpe Idk. With Petey & Hughes, you could aim for a senior/junior structure with the high draft picks from this year and next by being sellers generating your cost controlled successor core to Petterson and Hughes in their late 20s. Not ideal, but better than being buyers now IMO.
Earlier this week, I published a thread that was the first of two parts examining how #Ukraine and Russia might think about – and plan – the inevitable offensives to come in 2023. The #Gerasimov appointment pushed this second part back a couple of days! 1/25 🧵
Its nearly 11 months since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began. While we are currently in a lower tempo period, both sides are planning offensives for 2023. Today I begin a two-part exploration of the considerations for planning & conducting large-scale campaigns in 2023. 1/24 🧵
While some folks say they don't want to borrow money and will therefore have no choice but to sell their homes, preference not to have to borrow money against a 7 figure asset shouldn't drive public subsidy choices.
@CBCStephenQuinn @DianneWatts4BC: no one would need to sell their home due to a change in the BC Homeowners grant rate. There is an excellent program that allows a senior homeowner to borrow their entire property tax bill at very favourable interest rates.
And its done. New legislation passed in 🇫🇷 that foresees mandatory CO2 monitoring of indoor spaces. Starting with schools, daycare, restaurants. Bravo 👏

@lydiaelder There's definitely been tip inflation, esp since restaurants started having post-tax % tip suggestion buttons.
In the 90s, 20% was a very big tip. 10% was a bad tip. 'Double the GST' (14% of pre-tax total at the time) was a quick way to calculate a fair tip for good service.
Pretty hard to get behind an #NHL star who supports Putin & the misery he has wrought on Ukrainians & Russians alike.
Every Ovechkin goal these days is a tribute to imperialism, war crimes, & cleptocracy.
I can't separate the art from the artist here.

“I have never hidden my attitude towards our president, always supporting him,” says Ovechkin, three years after Russia annexed Crimea. “I am confident that there are many of us, supporting Vladimir Putin. So let's unite and show everyone a united and strong Russia!”
@AlexUsherHESA@FairVoteCanada Pretty much the US system in a variety of ways, no?
President has power regardless of seats.
A number of Senate actions require a supermajority...
Transparency is always the best policy. There is no need to hide anything going wrong in health care. I’m going to have more respect for a leader who is upfront about failings. I’d likely rally around them and support them. Just be authentic. It would be so refreshing.
The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do the math on investing in better mobility.
Let’s be clear — it wastes public money to NOT do it.
