Wei Wuxian had always thought Lotus Pier was the most beautiful place underneath the heavens, with its endless stretches of lotus flowers, bustling wooden piers, and the familiar laughter of disciples who had grown up alongside him. Even the humid summer air, which often left his robes sticking unpleasantly to his skin, had always brought him a certain comfort that the cold and overly disciplined mountains of Gusu could never hope to offer.
Yet, as he stood underneath the wooden eaves of his childhood home, watching the morning sunlight spill across the rippling surface of the lake, Wei Wuxian found himself wishing he was anywhere but here.
It was strange.
He had spent nearly his entire
childhood getting into trouble with Jiang Cheng, and more often than not, the two of them would end up kneeling in the ancestral hall together while Madam Yu scolded them for whatever mischief they had gotten themselves into. Jiang Cheng would always blame him, of course, with those pretty clematis-gray eyes narrowed into a murderous glare, while Wei Wuxian would simply grin and promise to make it up to him later.
And somehow, despite all their arguments and the occasional threat of being whipped by Zidian, Wei Wuxian had never once doubted that his shidi would be standing beside him the following morning.
Until now.
Wei Wuxian's fingers tightened around the wooden railing as he recalled the last time he had seen his younger brother, standing so terribly still beneath the watchful eyes of the cultivation world's most prominent families.
He would have preferred Jiang Cheng's anger. He would have gladly endured a thousand scoldings, a hundred punches, and every insult his sharp-tongued shidi could think of, if it meant seeing even the smallest flicker of that familiar fire return to his eyes.
Instead, all Wei Wuxian could remember was the awful emptiness upon Jiang Cheng's beautiful face, as though someone had reached inside his chest and cruelly extinguished the very thing that made him who he was. And for the first time since Jiang Fengmian had brought him back to Lotus Pier, Wei Wuxian wondered whether his beloved shidi would ever look at him the same way again.
Whenever ppl say “jc got saved by the wen siblings n didnt even feel like he owed them for it” i die a bit bc he did. He literally defended them. And got shot down immediately with something literally no one could fight back
LiuJiu is so funny. They keep sending death threats to each other while never acting on it. There’s someone out there thinking this is their foreplay and eventually it does.
Shen Jiu going back in time and turning into a Qing Jing disciple with himself as his own shizun, which should be a paradox but it doesn't really matter.
His goal is to take Binghe's place and be Shen Qingqiu's victim, that way he can save himself from being murdered by the
Shen Jiu imagines a world where he can sit on Liu Qingge's lap and play with his toys and be held. Then he imagines a world where he sinks into the ground and disappears forever out of sheer embarrassment. He's honestly not sure which he would prefer right now.
Shen Jiu doesn't know how to say thank you and mean it. He knows how to thank adults for their kindness in exchange for a few coins, for debasing themselves by giving something to someone who is less than human. But he never meant that. He only resented them.
