NOW: Ansar Allah (Houthis), in light of the Saudi Arabia announcement that they will be reopening Terminals 1 & 2 at the King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, announces that it is UNSAFE for civilians to transit due to being a “valid military target” for Ansar Allah.
It should be noted that Saudi Arabia THEMSELVES have admitted that Ansar Allah has struck the airport 5 times, with 4 of those strikes resulting in fatalities.
In reality, the airport has almost certainly been struck more than a DOZEN times.
My thoughts? It is wildly irresponsible for MBS to authorize the reopening of the airport given that Saudi CLEARLY cannot defend it from Ansar Allah.
Think what you will about whether or not Ansar Allah “should” target the airport, the reality is that they ARE, and therefore, it is completely reckless to resume its operation knowing full well you cannot defend it.
I agree with you Sir. that MBS continues to show blatant disregard for the lives of Saudi civilians and foreign residents living in Saudi Arabia. We must also make the full picture clear to many people.
Sana’a International Airport, which serves millions of Yemenis in northern #Yemen and is the airport of the capital, has been closed to commercial flights since August 2016 by a decision of the Saudi-led coalition (more than 10 years). Despite the resumption of limited flights to a single destination under the 2022 truce, they reinstated the blockade, and that is why the war resumed once again.
This closure has caused a documented humanitarian catastrophe:
• Depriving hundreds of thousands of patients of access to treatment (estimates from the Ministry of Health in Sana’a: approximately 400,000 people affected, including 250,000 who need medical treatment abroad).
• A severe shortage of more than 1,600 types of medicines, including cancer medications.
• Cancer cases have nearly doubled since 2015, and thousands of patients have died due to their inability to travel or shortages of refrigerated medicines and specialized treatments (such as radioactive iodine and bone marrow transplantation).
International organizations (such as the Norwegian Refugee Council, formerly CARE) have warned for years that the airport’s closure amounts to a “death sentence” for thousands of patients.
Therefore, Sana’a International Airport must be reopened immediately, without politicization.
