The truth is we have a process for disposing lands that no longer serve the public. The problem is the public actually has to be notified and allowed to comment in that process.

The US government acquired that land by paying in money and blood, then formed territories which then they allowed to apply for statehood. No western state paid for or shed blood in the name of acquiring land so how could it be "stolen" from a state?
