It’s impossible to draw good boundaries from fear.
If you brace for the other person’s reaction, you invite a fight.
If you do it from an open heart, you change the entire interaction.
This is such a post-modern cop-out you see in Godless societies. A good person benefits solely from being good and faithful to their intentions. So sick of seeing these leftist-coded nihilistic takes that serve only to justify amoral behavior.
.@DavidDeutschOxf: Everyone can and should be a scientist, because being a scientist just means wanting to understand the world and using the only method of doing so that works, namely, to be puzzled, to be mistaken, to guess how one might be mistaken and how the grand authorities who can't imagine that they could be mistaken often are, and not to be satisfied with bad explanations, one's own or anyone's, that is, explanations that could have otherwise and you'd be none the wiser. That's the critical attitude.
It's the only access to reality that we have. Use it. It's fun.
.@DavidDeutschOxf: Creativity is disobedience. By not recognizing that, by suppressing disobedience, you’re suppressing creativity—always.
Apart from mass murderers or something. But even then, it’s only the actions of criminals that have to be suppressed. Their ideas are best dealt with in non-violent ways.
So we need to make a physically safe society, but not a society safe from ideas—unless they’re ideas about violence, intolerance, or suppressing the growth of knowledge.
And there are many such ideas around.
When I miss the gym I’m less focused.
When I’m less focused I make poor decisions at work.
When I make poor decisions at work I end up working late.
When I work late I stay up late.
When I stay up late I sleep in.
When I sleep in I don’t make it to the gym.
When I don’t make it to the gym I’m less hungry.
When I’m less hungry I skip meals.
When I skip meals I’m less focused.
When I’m unfocused I make poor decisions.
When I make poor decisions I get stressed and irritable.
When I’m stressed I scroll on my phone more.
When I scroll more I lose track of time and lose literally hours of the day.
When I lose time I don’t make it to the gym.
When I don’t make it to the gym I’m less focused.
…Any one of these moments is an opportunity to break the cycle.
When journos classify "billionaires" they miss that:
1- It is paper valuation. If they were able to liquidate, they may no longer be billionaires, as prices are sensitive to a large supply.
2- If they managed to sell, they will owe capital gains taxes.
3- Sometimes, as with PE they just can' t sell.
@levelsio Have you lived in Germany? Not so sure about the bribes, but the rest of what you described sounds similar. I think it’s mostly due to bureaucracy though.
