The design shape of the SWB is based on the Giulietta SZ Kamm Tail (1961), the 2600 SZ (1965) and the S.Z. (1990).The SZ's tail lights tend to mark the shape of the rear and are therefore more integrated with its design.

The design of the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato is a natural evolution of the Alfa Romeo SZ models starting with the SZ Kamm Tail, born in 1961, which dominated its GT Class in 1962 - 1963, the 1965 2600 SZ, up to the more recent S.Z. whose front end inspired the recent Tonale.
