Before meeting / ever seeing Murabit Al Hajj (May Allah have mercy on him) Shaykh Hamza Yusuf began to have dreams in which he saw a great man, whom He learned later was Murabit al-Hajj.
He describes meeting Murabit as follows: 1/2
Blessed are those who are merciful. Again, blessed are those who are merciful. And again, blessed are those who are merciful.”

Ka’b reported: Allah Almighty said to Moses, upon him be peace, “O Moses, be soft in nature, for the most abhorred creation to me is one within whom is arrogance, in whose tongue is sharpness, and in whose heart is hardness. 1/3
The most beloved character traits to me are mercy, compassion, kindness, and gentleness. O Moses, be merciful to my creation and I will have mercy on you. O Moses, I am merciful and I love those who are merciful. 2/3
Fudayl ibn ‘Iyad r.a. said:
“Those who achieved (righteousness) did not do so, in our view, with an abundance of fasts, nor prayers. Indeed, they only achieved with the spirit of generosity, purity of heart, and sincerity to the community.”

In Tarim, Hadhramaut they didn’t write or author all that much. When they were asked they said “we were too busy authoring the hearts of men”. Authoring human hearts, their inscriptions are on the hearts of people. Knowledge in reality is in the hearts, the depths of the being.

It is a right one owes a brother that one should turn a blind eye to his defects. The Sheikhs have said: “Anyone who analyses people’s defects gains little but spoils his heart.”
And they have said: “If you see a person busying himself with people’s defects,
And they have said: “I have not seen anything that more efficiently invalidates (good) actions, and corrupts the hearts, or more quickly
ruins a servant, or makes him more abhorrent, or more directly leads to love for fame and self-admiration,
Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’oon
May Allah elevate the ranks of Ustadh Syed Naquib al-Attas as much as he elevated our souls towards Islam.
There is no other scholar than Imam al-Ghazali i hold as dear to my heart as shaykh al-Attas, i owe so much to this man.
One of the greatest muslim thinkers of 21st century, I hope and pray to Allah that his project continues to inspire the muslim world till qiyamah.
Al-Ghazālī writes:
Among the duties of a Muslim are to have a sense of justice within himself for people, and to not treat them except in a way that he would love to be treated by them.

Ibn Ajiba (Allah have mercy upon him) mentions that making excuses for others returns to the Prophet’s words (peace and blessings be upon him) that, “A believer is a mirror of the believer.”
“Religion is sincere concern (ad-dinu’n nasiha).” And, “It is only the merciful who are granted mercy by the All-Merciful. Be merciful to those on earth and the Lord of the Heavens will be merciful to you.”
