Pagan Origins of Christmas—
“In Rome, the Feast of the Unconquerable Sun celebrated the beginning of the return of the sun. When Christianity became the religion of the Empire, the church either had to suppress the festivals or transform them. The winter solstice seemed an appropriate time to celebrate Christ's birth. Thus, the festival of the sun became a festival of the Son, the Light of the world.”

This is a work by Christians who are seminarians, biblical experts & subject matter experts on early Christian history.
Note:
To be clear, when we say Christmas is Christo-pagan, we mean that as a new sacred day in the Christian calendar, the origin, development, & initial introduction of this tradition involved the Christianization of Greco-Roman, late antiquity, mainly non-Christian traditions and beliefs.
Christmas Day has evolved over the centuries, while not all of the tradition is specifically pagan in its modern form, our focus is on the motives & cultural contexts behind its introduction into the early Christian tradition.
While I acknowledge that Jewish religious & cultural motifs played a role in the development of the Christmas tradition, the Judaization of pagan motifs does not altogether negate the role of pagan motifs in the Christian tradition. Rather it contextualizes the various means of the adoption & transformation of these pagan motifs in the first place.
