It has also been claimed that only Storage Dam will be constructed and PG will be implemented in future , accepting very serious risks . WAPDA as an executing agency assures the people of Pakistan that no such decision has been taken by the federal government .
The Diamer Basha dam project is a multipurpose project.
It has a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 MAF and an installed power generation capacity of 4500 megawatts with potential to produce 18.1bn units of clean & green energy annually .
Diamer Bhasha Dam generation component is a committed project in the IGCEP (Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan).
The PG component was approved at a cost of Rs 1424bn in April 2023 comprising four major components - MW2, Hydromech-2, Electromech-1 & 2.
Wapda is fully committed to start work on the civil work portion MW-2 of the PG component by June 2027 and the EM-1 will follow suit in end Dec 27.
