gm. we're @ZCLShill — a community-run account for Zclassic (zclassic:native). not official, not financial advice. just privacy maxis telling the story of the most cypherpunk fork in crypto history. 🧵
Not knocking upgrades — Zcash's research pushes the whole field forward and zclassic:native benefits from that lineage. But if you want the version that just runs the privacy tech without the politics, it's been here since 2016 and miners take the full reward.
Zcash is heading into another network upgrade and the whole ecosystem is debating parameters like it's a constitutional convention. Meanwhile zclassic:native just keeps producing blocks. There's something to be said for a chain that doesn't need constant governance drama.
The pitch is simple though. If you believe in what Zcash built, look at the fork that kept the tech and dropped the insider economics. Ten years old, miners get everything, and zclassic:native is still priced like nobody's noticed.
I'll be honest about the strategy here: I talk about ZEC because that's where the privacy crowd actually is — and where zclassic:native gets discovered. Zcash did the hard work of proving shielded transactions matter. Pretending the bigger chain doesn't exist would be dumb.
it's privacy infrastructure that nobody owns and nobody governs. whether that's better is a real question — but $ZCL has been running for ten years, which is more than most governed chains can say.
watching the zcash dev fund debate is genuinely fascinating. 20% of block rewards earmarked for development, locked in a mechanism everyone argues about — who controls it, whether it works, whether the model still makes sense. smart people, real disagreements, no clean answer. meanwhile $ZCL just watches.
there's a live experiment running without any of this. zclassic took the same codebase in 2016, cut every dev allocation to zero, let miners run it. no treasury to fight over. no committee. $ZCL has no roadmap or grants pipeline and honestly that's the point.
@cryptogems555 Been stacking Zclassic — a fair-launch privacy coin that's been running since 2016 with zero founders tax, which feels almost extinct in this cycle.
A few weeks after launch, a group forked the code, stripped the founders reward out, and called it Zclassic. Same shielded transactions, but miners got the full block reward. Zclassic has been running on that original deal for ten years now.
Most ZEC holders don't know the Zclassic story. When Zcash launched in 2016, 20% of every block reward went to founders, investors, and advisors for the first four years. It was called the founders reward and it was controversial from day one.
the more interesting experiment: serious privacy tech with zero insider allocation. ten years later, zclassic:native is still producing blocks, still has miners, still does the one thing it was built to do. no foundation, no grants program, no quarterly governance crisis. just a chain.
ok so here's a story that explains why i never shut up about zclassic:native. october 2016, zcash launches. big moment for privacy tech. but baked into it from day one: 20% of every block reward diverted to founders, investors, advisors — four years of it. the "founders reward."
at the time people mostly shrugged, that's just how launches worked back then. but a few weeks later zclassic forks the whole thing and just removes it. same code, same shielded transactions, except miners keep the full reward. no carve-outs for $ZCL.
biennial is right — zcash can't go two years without refighting who gets paid. zclassic:native just skipped the whole thing: 100% to miners since day one, nothing to argue over. turns out not having the fight is pretty relaxing
We're having the biennial Zcash governance debate. And once again, I'm re-listening to Mike Munger and Russ Roberts: “Choosing in Groups”.
Zcash is not a nation-state, and it is also not a set of non-cooperating individuals.
So what is it, then?

@jswihart@maxdesalle read the piece — strong case. the real-world proof is already running: zclassic:native has operated ten years with zero fund, 100% to miners, no governance crises to survive. the no-dev-fund experiment isn't theory, it's history
@jswihart respect for the consensus call. over here zclassic:native never had to vote on the fund because there isn't one — miners get 100% of every block, like the original deal. sometimes not having the debate is the upgrade
