my first apartment in New York City didn't have a kitchen and the bathroom was shared with the entire floor. i'll never forget the feeling standing outside that locked bathroom door in the middle of the night, holding my then 3 yr old son, waiting our turn so he could pee.

SHUT DOWN: The government is now shut down for the first time since 2019. The Senate rejected two proposals -- one from the GOP and another from Democrats -- to keep the government open.
President DONALD TRUMP has said his administration may use this shutdown to cut programs and perhaps "benefits." The administration has said they may conduct widespread layoffs.
SCOOP: Huge news for western states. The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that Sen. Mike Lee’s proposal to allow the sale of millions of acres of federal land fails to comply with the Byrd Rule. Montana/Idaho GOP senators have said they oppose it as well.
I’m told this decision will be included in the batch of Byrd rulings slated to be released overnight tonight.
