@shilpa_cn That's not the truck driver, if you zoon in you will see he was crossing the highway hesitantly and was hit by the truck and thrown off... the bus driver was smart enough to avoid further damage...
@RT_com I guess it was a self defence done instinctively. have seen many videos of delivery agents being chased by dogs... what if he was bitten... whose liability would that be? What's UPS policy about these potential threat to their delivery agents?
those with the most influence often have the greatest need for criticism, yet they may be among the least likely to receive it. That's one reason societies create mechanisms such as independent courts, free media, peer review, elections, audits, and other forms of oversight to make scrutiny less dependent on the willingness of powerful individuals to invite it.
@sciencegirl Learning often occurs in response to change, feedback, or new information, such as that derived from live events. However, not all learning translates into immediate behavioral modification... takes time... humanity inherently possesses resilience to change
What about Nalanda University? India. History is always told by survivors... But facts remain, we need to accept the truth as is.
Established in 427 CE by Emperor Kumaragupta I. At its zenith, it drew thousands of scholars and monks from across Asia viz, Japan, China, Tibet, south eastern countries, teaching Buddhism, astronomy, medicine, politics, and mathematics.
Survived and operated continuously for roughly 766 years.
The Destruction (1193 CE): Destroyed by a Turko-Afghan army led by Bakhtiyar Khilji.
The Massacre: Thousands of unarmed Buddhist monks, scholars, and students were slaughtered. Those who weren't killed immediately fled to neighboring regions like Tibet, Nepal, and China.
The campus was looted and the 9 million manuscript library (Dharmaganja) was set ablaze.
The fire burned for three to six months, permanently ending the university as a global center of learning.
@sciencegirl While Roman concrete is famous for its millennial lifespan, the actual physical labor and time required to build with it would paralyze a modern construction site....
cement based concrete is fundamentally made for speed, predictability, and ease of application...
The structural strain that many democracies face from expansive welfare schemes stems from a fundamental mismatch between long term fiscal sustainability and short term electoral politics. While social safety nets are designed to reduce inequality, their unchecked growth can create severe macroeconomic and political imbalances. A truly successful state builds long term economic independence for its citizens rather than fostering permanent reliance on government assistance.
@NicoleA18060980 Dangerously accurate... but it's not a sport ... So no safety gadgets... One misstep and done for the rest of her life... Sad π’... Life is not cheap
@Kristinartz Civilization is, in many ways, an attempt to channel our reward seeking instincts toward constructive goals. When that alignment breaks, rewards become bribes, ambition becomes greed, and pleasure becomes addiction....
The speed of innovation today is so overwhelming that we often hesitate to question ambitious visions. Ideas that once belonged to science fiction, like colonizing Mars are increasingly treated as inevitable futures. In our excitement, we risk forgetting that skepticism is not opposition to progress, it is part of ensuring that progress serves humanity wisely.
