( '…You can say no.'
But he doesn't say it… because to do so means to open a door for rejection. )
Here.
( The device is places between them, as though giving him the chance to reach for it… or not.
Not all doors are strictly in the shape of… well, a door. )
( No attempt at reaching out is made from his part, either. Instead, Renton looks up to the sky above them, the sunset feels oddly… artificial.
The city is quiet, but the silence isn't peaceful like the one in his little, boring hometown that he hated so much. )
( Instead, he walks towards a nearby bench, his lift board… akin to a surfboard, is left to the side. )
I'm Renton T…
( He trails off for a second, even in a city far away from home, he hesitates on saying his father's surname. )
Just Renton.
( At the very least it seems like Renton has some degree of expertise [no, that implies that he's good at… whatever this is] dealing with difficult people.
Admittedly, this guy is somehow worse than Eureka. Renton makes no comment about it. )
If you're still listening to whatever's in there, that probably means you like it, and if you like it, it can't be 'nothing good'.
( There's a slight smile as he extends the MP3 player towards Shinji. )
Wanna trade for a track?
But you're still listening to it, right?
( 'I've had it for awhile', he says. From his pocket, Renton produces a digital MP3 player, it's LCD screen turning briefly… only to turn off again once it detects that there are no earbuds plugged. )
( Staring is one of those habits that he's picked up from being with Eureka… truthfully, his stare was more inquisitive than anything, it isn't often that Renton runs into people his age. )
No, you aren't in my way… it's just… that's a walkman, right?
