While this is sad, I think there’s an important lesson founders and business owners can take from it.

When you’re building a business or startup, your attention is on growth and revenue. Complying with laws feels like money you could be putting back into the business.

But imagine being fined with a huge bill years later for something you could have addressed from the beginning.

To be clear, I’m not justifying the ₦75 million ITF figure. The basis and how it was calculated can still be examined.

My point is simply this:
the cost of non-compliance can be much higher than the cost of compliance.

You could be chilling then suddenly, you receive a notice or a demand and realise that you didn’t legally protect what you struggled to build.

What happens if I don’t comply?

Compliance may feel like an expense when you’re starting out but sometimes, it’s the expense that saves you from a much bigger one later.
