For the second year in a row, North Atlantic sea surface temperatures broke 25°C, reaching 25.01°C on August 20, 2024.

The hottest temperature recorded for the period 1982-2022 was 24.89°C.

It is official.

The Mediterranean sea surface temperature has just set a new heat record. The average sea surface temperature just hit a staggering +28.15°C.

18 out of the top 20 hottest days for the Mediterranean sea surface have been observed in the last 13 months alone.

Said it before I’ll say it again. If you can afford a holiday that’s fine. But for those of us who can’t, taking your kids to the beach for a paddle, or swim in a river is now a luxury we’ve had taken away. It may not sound like much to you but for us it was everything. So knowing water companies would rather pay their shareholders than look after the infrastructure, why should WE be bailing them out? We should renationalise… who’s gonna look after it better, a company who chose to neglect the system and pay shareholders or us as country owning it again?
