In the last year, our landlord has been served with 78 different legal notices by the council naming serious hazards.
In response, our landlord threatened dozens of flats with huge rent increases, many as high as 60%.
Our landlord is also doubling down, and trying to overturn the refusal of their planning application for evicting the community and building penthouses on top of our blocks.
We have been saying it for years - we want safe homes, not penthouses and evictions. We know our community is worth fighting for, and we won’t give up without a fight.
NEW: Hundreds of students at the London School of Economics have walked out of lectures, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Organisers say this is the first of more than 15 student walk-outs planned for the next two days.
🚨UPDATE🚨
ICJP has now issued the Labour Leadership with a notice of intention to prosecute any UK politician for their complicity in war crimes in Gaza.
The announcement comes after Saturday's notice to @RishiSunak of the UK government's complicity in Israeli war crimes.
✨ My first-ever academic article, co-authored with my dear friend and colleague @cigna_luca, is out for @TheSocReview!
📢 Inspired by the work of David Graeber, we present "the caring classes" as a way to identify an intersectional revolutionary subject apt to our times! (1/3🧵)
That was possible because on 19 March 2020, the day before Sunak’s big u-turn, the BoE pledged to buy an £200 billion of government bonds, propping up the prices (and therefore driving the yields – effective interest rates over 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, 30 years – down).
@NomadDahlia @mckenziewark @f_zammit@gp_jls I guess both were to prove points rather than explicit strategies, Caliban is saying capital can’t achieve total subsumption, Wages offered a symbolic starting ground for tackling poltical economy ( not necessarily demanding wages)
@NomadDahlia @mckenziewark @f_zammit@gp_jls Oh right. Isn’t the acknowledgment that it’s ongoing the recognition of a structure? Addressing the structure - a path- looks like finding a way to stop capital appropriating the creativity of popular forces
@mckenziewark @NomadDahlia@f_zammit@gp_jls ‘Caliban and the witch’ is the opposite of anachronistic, it reinterprets the past to discern an ongoing dynamic. I don’t know, cos haven’t read, but I think that work is completely undone in ‘Beyond the periphery of the skin’
@curiousiguana Canetti’s ‘Crowds and Power’: A crowd wants to grow, needs a direction, within a crowd there’s equality. A queue might be the stagnant crowd, it lives for its discharge but puts it off, with a hierarchy based on insistent equality (everyone waits their turn)
@mba_gazelle@AdetolaOlutosin with the justifying logic rich people need financial incentives to get them to work but poor people need less financial support to get them to work
@mckenziewark @NomadDahlia@f_zammit@gp_jls passing forces of production into private hands doesn’t benefit peoples’ lives, frequently it obstructs spontaneous industry and sharing of collective innovations - witch after all just means scientist after the privatisation of gender/religion
Grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with @JournalLatin joining other great colleagues in the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the journal's name change to include the Caribbean. Hoping for more fruitful discussions in the field!
