Paid R50 a Weekโ, Zungula Alleges Shocking Labour Abuses in Newcastle Factories
ATM leader Vuyo Zungula led an inspection in Newcastle that uncovered alleged severe labour law violations at several Chinese-owned textile factories.
He alleged the inspection revealed the employment of minors and undocumented workers, non-payment of UIF contributions, and wages as low as R50 a week.
Zungula further alleged that some factory owners are illegally in the country and that workers are forced to live and work in unsafe and inhumane conditions.
He accused the owners of tax evasion while benefiting from public infrastructure, calling on South Africans to โspeak their truthโ against what he described as systemic exploitation.
