What do you mean by "cut them some slack"? Being a woman isn't a matter of how you feel about your sex, it's an objective fact,and when you screw with objective definitions in policies and laws you cause all sorts of collateral damage. In my experience a lot of men think something along the lines of "he's cut his dick off therefore he must be serious, and he can't possibly count as a man without a dick, so women can budge up." That's what led us to men in women's sports and changing rooms and toilets and rape crisis centres and domestic violence shelters and prisons. It's what's led us to people being reported to the police for calling men men when those men want to be referred to as women. You can of course cut all the slack you like personally, even though it's intellectually unimpressive, but don't expect anyone else to do so, and don't put any of that slack in law or policy.
