I am one of President Irro’s critics. I doubted whether his quiet, low-key style of politics was strong enough to handle Somaliland’s challenges. His approach to diplomacy seemed too passive, and I also shared the public’s concerns about some individuals within his administration.

But my recent observations have made me rethink that view. What I once considered passiveness now appears to be deliberate patience. President Irro has avoided unnecessary political fights and instead focused on stability, yet strong on defending the country.

What really changed my perspective is how he has listened to the people. On several occasions, when citizens raised concerns about basic services, he responded directly. That showed me he is not disconnected from everyday struggles, but willing to act when people speak up.

His diplomatic strategy also looks different to me now. While it may not grab headlines, his quiet engagement with Somaliland’s friends and sympathizers is a smart form of diplomacy. It avoids creating new enemies while keeping the recognition question alive in the international space.

Of course, doubts about certain individuals in his administration remain valid, and no leader is above criticism. But I believe it is also fair to recognize when a leader proves critics wrong and shows progress.

#Somaliland is facing many challenges and adversaries. At this critical time, I believe Somalilanders must put aside their differences and rally behind their president.
