@ISuney@N0COLORZ i understand both sides. as a nigerian for example, i can look at an american, regardless of race or ethnicity, and say they have all the privileges of being an american. then look at a black american and a white american and understand that systemic differences exist
@Pentobarsol that’s the thing, i never grouped all iraqis or syrians into one. one person might understand the various complexities of the us war in iraq and hold a certain view, but another person might hear the word “american” and immediately become hostile. it’s a matter of perspective
@ISuney@N0COLORZ i have to postface this by saying again, this isn’t me denying or downplaying the struggles black americans have gone through at all, but understanding the different points of the discussion and giving my own two cents
@ISuney@N0COLORZ an iraqi or syrian person could say the same. they have also lived through horrible events, and they certainly won’t divide americans into black, white or indigenous when they saw all sorts of americans in military gear brutalising their people
@BSBMari_@ISuney@N0COLORZ and that’s in line with my point, that cannot happen to black americans because they are americans. again i’m in no way downplaying the fact that black americans still face systemic oppression, but two facts can coexist and i feel that’s the main point being brought forward
@BSBMari_@ISuney@N0COLORZ listen, i for one understand that, what i feel the main point that person is trying to make is that the US government cannot just decide to take F16s and F35s and use them against black americans the same way they did in places like syria or yemen
@ISuney@N0COLORZ i don’t think i properly articulated myself here but what i mean is, they’re probably not on about how black americans are seen by other americans, but how they’re seen outside the american border and the freedoms they have for literally being american citizens
@O_Laiidee@goldi_logs telling a young child that hey if i don’t answer you when you get back from school, i may or may not have been violently killed doesn’t seem extra to you?
