@Abrew2014 As an adult, simple, accessible and affordable drop in shinny is the most fun I’ve ever had playing. I believe the solution to most hockey development issues are simple, more arenas dedicating an ice sheet to all day shinny. Good signup system and lots of goalie interest are key.

@heatdaddy69420 I’ve been waiting for a skilled team to try this. I imagine initially it would be a mess and losses would pile up, which is nothing new to the oilers early in the season anyways, but then creativity would start to return and at some point i think they’d become unstoppable.

I believe one thing needed to make this successful, is to help develop goalies, for example, providing aspiring goalies free equipment if they agree to sign up for a predetermined amount of shinny’s per week or month. Having two goalies is a key to consistent shinny participation

How is there not a single indoor arena in Calgary just running drop-in shinny all day, every day? Simple, accessible and affordable hockey for everyone who wants to play. Let’s open some dual arenas with nothing but all day drop-in skating, stick & pucks, and shinny.

The first 40 years of my life I was playing on story mode, following the preset story society expects of us with limited money and resources, the next 40 years of my life, I’m switching to sandbox mode where I create the story with unlimited money and resources to play with.

There is a goalie demand problem in hockey that can easily be solved if there was better access to expensive protective equipment for the average player to try playing goal.

In my opinion, one of the best ways to learn hockey as an adult would be - 15 min structured half ice practice followed by 60 minutes of fun mentored and/or self taught shinny with players of varying skill levels. 1-2 areas of focus per session, 20 players max, 3-5 times/week

When I play hockey, I don’t want a crowded bench and less ice time. Our 11:11 hockey league will solve this with each team’s maximum game roster capped at 11 players, leaving 5 resting on each bench at a time. This is why shinny capped at 20 skaters is so fun and enjoyable.
