@ddayen I don’t know anything about CTEH in particular but everyone knows a smaller outfit, whether it’s an auditor, lab, bank, etc., is more likely to give you the decision you want. The insinuation CTEH is more likely to bend rules because it’s big is literally the opposite of true.

@ddayen I‘ve read Stoller’s book so I know what I need to know, right? My recurring gripe with the dogma is it runs up against the economy-wide phenomenon of local concession-holders who provide bad service and treat workers badly. Sometimes consolidation really is the lesser evil.

@ddayen @wendellpotter You might ask how revenue and profit track each other so neatly. Aren’t there any operational efficiencies from scale? Of course, but in the health insurance business “profit” is a made up number that by law can’t grow faster than revenue so they move money around accordingly.

@ddayen @leee_harris The vast majority of West Virginia is owned by out of state interests so to talk about it as if it’s a real community rather a resource for capital to plunder is a little misleading. The number of coal miners is about the same as workers in my office complex before the pandemic.

@leee_harris @ddayen Unfortunate choice of words since the entire state was native land and the US reneged on multiple treaties to prevent white settlers from land that was supposed to be reserved for the tribes.
